Why I loose my video quality when I transfer videos from mini DV camcorder to PC?

I am transferring my videos from Canon Z60 mini DV camcorder using FIREWIRE 1394 port and Windows Movie Maker. When I watch the same video by connecting the camcorder directly to TV via AV port, the quality of videos is very good. But when I transfer the videos to my PC, using firewire port and windows movie maker, I just receive a resolution of 320×240 pixels. This is very poor resolution. Is their any other form of transferring the Videos from mini DV cassettes to PC, keeping the QUALITY of the videos? Will using any other professional Video software while transferring will help? Do somebody know which FORMAT windows movie maker save the video in? Is is MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 for anyother format?

Our Samsung Mini DV Camcorder has all of a sudden been inconsistent when working. A few nights ago we filmed for about a minute before the screen turned into nothing but gray, black, and fuzz. The next night it worked again. Just today, I filmed for about a minute before it went back to the gray and black with no picture. Both times it did sit in a hot car for a few hours. Could this have something to do with it or could it be something else? Is it possible the heads need cleaned? Please help!

I want to send a VHS or DVD (doesn’t matter which) to a friend. I need to copy it from an 8mm cassette to a video tape. I have tried the whole audio/video jack into TV and camcorder thing, I have tried just plugging it in, playing the film on the TV, putting in a blank video tape and hitting record, but it comes out completely blank. I have no idea what to do, and I was hoping to do this before Christmas. THANK YOU! And, oh, yeah, by the way, the video camera is not digital, it only tapes 8mm. Question about MiniDV camcorders and video transfer?

I was wondering how MiniDV camcorders work when it comes to transferring footage to PC.. how long does it take? does it transfer a lot faster then the play time? Iike how long does it take per minute does it run the tape in like a FF to transfer or what? Also.. how do the clips go in does it separate each clip into it’s own file somehow or is it all one big video so u have to cut all the videos on the computer or what? I’ve only used SD and HDD I’ve never used MiniDV so Idk how they work.. I was looking at professional camcorders but they’re all MiniDV! like the Canon XH-A1 HD & Canon XL2.. how do they do it? I would think they’d all want hard disk and what would be the advantage of using tapes? plz help thx!

I am looking to buy a camcorder because the one I had crapped out on me years ago but I am looking to update!!! Should I even buy a DV Camcorder? Is there anything better than that? Can I erase any part of the video using a mini-dvd while filming? Can I stop and record later like a CD-RW or would it save without being able to add to it???

I’ve been looking around (with not too much luck) to find a pretty nice HD camcorder and video editing software for the Mac. I’m trying to find the camera for under $400, and the software nothing too fancy but I’d like green-screen compatibility. Anyone have any tips? It would mean a lot!

camcorder batteries?

Hi, I have a digital 8mm sony handicam. It is about 10 years old, but has not seen much use. I have two batteries, the one it came with, which is good for about one hour and the second is good for about three hours. The second battery is made by sony for sony so its not after market. Problem, when both batteries fully are charged, they both act like they are about to die. Example, the three hour battery is fully charged, according to the read out it states 2:56, thats two hours and fifty six minutes at full charge. Then, when I use said battery is works fine for about ten minutes then shuts down stating low battery charge. The battery that came with the camcorder does likewise. Why is this? Thanx, Robert

I really want to get a mini-dv (no other formats) camcorder because I will be going to Paris this summer. I want to get one that costs under $400. It would be nice if it could have at least 30x OPTICAL zoom and a high quality lense. Image stabilization (and other features which stabilize the image and make it clearer) are also musts. I am looking to purchase a DVD digital camcorder. I am choosing this format because I feel it is the easist and most convenient to work with. (as opposed to High Def-way too pricey, Mini-DV-can’t stand FF/REV tapes & Hard Drive- pricey and like Mini-DV or 8mm- time consuming to transfer the video to back to playable media like VHS or DVD). Does anyone agree with this?
I would like to purchase a simple Camcorder that gives me decent picture, batterly life, recording time, playable DVD format, image stabilization, nighttime shooting etc for a budget of $400. Does anyone have any recommendations. Anything else I should know or look for in a DVD camcorder. Any glaring drawbacks? (I.E. disk not playable on certain DVD players, limited recording times, I understand you can only record up to 30 minutes. 60 minute DVDs are available but they are “flipper” disks which is very inconvenient).
I would greaty appreciate suggestions, recommendations, tips, warnings etc.

I’m looking for a new camcorder to shoot some short films. Obviously, I want good quality and HD, but for an affordable price. I came across the Panasonic H81 which seemed great until I saw it shoots in MPEG2. I’ve read that MPEG2 is a pain to edit. (at least I think it’s MPEG2)?

I am planning to buy a dv cam and I found that pocket or mini dv cams are good to my budget than normal dv cams. Also unknown brands are a lot cheaper than popular brands such as Canon and JVC. Here in the Philippines I got confused in choosing between Aiptek and Brica products. Which brands are good quality and is durable and dependable and is legit too?.I came across DV cams that is multi-purpose like having mp3,games,voice recorder and etc which degrades or limiting the original function which is Video Recording. Just economic traveler nothing to do with business class or such as i wont pay that much for business just because i want to carry lots more kilos.

I will be taking a laptop bag the laptop bag is aprox 20sizes from the side because the LAPTOP is 18.4 sizes screen. When i hold the bag it feels heavy and whats in the bag is just the mouse and the laptop and allready feels heavy. I think it feels just about 7kilos But the problem is that the bag would look empty with just a mouse/laptop and thats it. I want to add things like papers pens… perhaps magazines and 3 disk and charger.. total would be probly about 8 and a half kilos to about 9kilos unfortunaly.

Qantas says you can not carry more then 7kilos or they will make you take things out of the bag.

Also im going to carry on my arm a thick winter goated jacket.

There will be myself my mother and father each one will carry a winter jacket on the side of them. each one will also carry a carry on bag so for them both they wont be carrying more then 7kilos.. But i will because the laptop is heavy and the whiole bag feels heavy with the laptop….

I will also carry a video small camcorder on the side of my hand maybe a little tiny camcorder bag. This means i will caryr a laptop bag which will be like 9kilos heavy… a thick jacket on my arm and a small camcorder bag that wont be more then kist 2 or 3 kilos.

So could i bring all this ? will they charge me? how much… what might happen?

I dont want to end up going around in circles and realise i have to take things out of the bag and improtantly i wotn dare put my 18.4 sizes laptop in my large luggage because it could break by the cargos.

I dont no if VIRGINBLUE is made easier but i know JETSTAR will defently be bad for all this.

I just went to a travel bag shop they had something like a hook scale to waight the bags…. its like a digital display with battery small aluminum hook that you hook the bag and it will waight the bag,. it cost 49.00 dollars… Do you think these things are really worth buying or are these things are not acuracy ? i dont no how thats going to work because my laptop bag is very heavy and abit too big to waight that with that hook. And i dont no.

hello i have an HD camcorder. on my laptop..i can hook up the camcorder and watch the videos fine..but on my computer..it doesnt seem to open the file..(windows media player) and play it..i have to play it through nero..and the quality is verry bad too…i bought the pc a year ago too so it isnt all that old? what do i do? do i have todownload a new firmware for windows media player? its like MTS format or something
