OK. Cameras are for pictures, right? Camcorders are for videos, right? But what the hell the Canon 7D DSLR make HD videos betters that any Camcorder of HD around 6k to 8k and it only cost $2,129. And as a Videographer a need to pay 6K to 8k for a HD camcorder and it get worst, those camcorder are 1/3 CCD chip, the worst thing in low light situation. Check this video “Canon 7D movie – Another night in Beijing” This is proof that SONY,JVC & Panasonic only whant to F… Y.. until they can’t no more.

So what is the bitrate of a Canon 7D DSLR? 6, 13, 17, 24 Mbps?

The video itself is XD CAM EX codec but put into a .mov or .mp4 “wrapper”.

Uhh no, this camera does 1080p amongst other features that are not available on the older models. Furthermore the spatial offset on this camera to get to 1080p is a lot less than that on lower cost cameras, because this camera is native 1280 X 720, while something less expensive like the Panasonic HMC150 is only 960 X 520. Also the choice of lenses is much better with the JVC while with fixed lens cameras you’re stuck with the stock lens and will have to use adapters. Do a bit more research.

Well said. By the way, I’m a full time film student, so I spend my fair share of time drooling over the RED website. 28K! Holy mother of god. When it comes to price vs. performance though, I’m pretty sure the JVC is the best band for the buck when it comes to 1080p. Plus since I’m on a Macbook Pro, you can’t beat SD card for editing!

Same here, except I graduated. I prefer editing on AVID so if I decide on this camera (can’t afford 28K RED), I’ll have to get the SxS adapter to unlock the .MP4 wrapper otherwise I’ll be kicking myself in the face toying around with the trasncoder. BTW the show I work for shot some stuff on RED 4K recently and I was watching it as it was being processed and it was amazing, it really does a good job at mimicking film, though you need to shoot 5K to get 35mm res because of Bayer pattern.

Fortunately (or unfortunately for those of us trained on ARRIFLEXs and such) the movie-going world is getting more accustomed to the look and feel of video opposed to film. Even though I love and appreciate film as an art form, no one can argue that it is a dying medium. I think the technical world should embrace video, stop focusing so much on trying to make it look like film and focus more on telling good stories. Not that I’m against 3 inch image sensors, though. lol!

Thats highly debatable. Are you implying that the film industry shouldn’t shoot on 300,000 dollar IMAX cameras, because they’re not much better than 35mm? Those of us who like watching video and film on the big screen appreciate every tiny bit of quality we can get. 35mbps is a huge step for the video world.

Agreed. Although with cameras like the RED Scarlet series with resolutions as high as 9K (just about kills IMAX res) and 28K the industry is slowly moving into digital. In fact we have seen a lot of newer material come in at my company on solid state drives or conversions from RED, XDcam, and P2.

Agreed 100% I think I’m in love with this camera… I’m not sure that’s healthy, but it’s such a sexy machine. I want one so badly.
