Almost every editing software are combatible with mini DV camcorders, even the Windows Movie Maker. The best software by my opinion is Adobe Premiere (Pro or Elements, both are good). It can improve video and audio quality and it has good editing possibilties.

I use powerdirector 7 And it recognises the MOD files from my JVC Everio camcorder, Instantly.
