I am transferring my videos from Canon Z60 mini DV camcorder using FIREWIRE 1394 port and Windows Movie Maker. When I watch the same video by connecting the camcorder directly to TV via AV port, the quality of videos is very good. But when I transfer the videos to my PC, using firewire port and windows movie maker, I just receive a resolution of 320×240 pixels. This is very poor resolution. Is their any other form of transferring the Videos from mini DV cassettes to PC, keeping the QUALITY of the videos? Will using any other professional Video software while transferring will help? Do somebody know which FORMAT windows movie maker save the video in? Is is MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 for anyother format?

What does it mean if my mini DV Camcorder is showing black/gray/fuzzy images?

Our Samsung Mini DV Camcorder has all of a sudden been inconsistent when working. A few nights ago we filmed for about a minute before the screen turned into nothing but gray, black, and fuzz. The next night it worked again. Just today, I filmed for about a minute before it went back to the gray and black with no picture. Both times it did sit in a hot car for a few hours. Could this have something to do with it or could it be something else? Is it possible the heads need cleaned? Please help!

Hi, I have a digital 8mm sony handicam. It is about 10 years old, but has not seen much use. I have two batteries, the one it came with, which is good for about one hour and the second is good for about three hours. The second battery is made by sony for sony so its not after market. Problem, when both batteries fully are charged, they both act like they are about to die. Example, the three hour battery is fully charged, according to the read out it states 2:56, thats two hours and fifty six minutes at full charge. Then, when I use said battery is works fine for about ten minutes then shuts down stating low battery charge. The battery that came with the camcorder does likewise. Why is this? Thanx, Robert

I really want to get a mini-dv (no other formats) camcorder because I will be going to Paris this summer. I want to get one that costs under $400. It would be nice if it could have at least 30x OPTICAL zoom and a high quality lense. Image stabilization (and other features which stabilize the image and make it clearer) are also musts. What recommendations do you have?

I am looking to purchase a DVD digital camcorder. I am choosing this format because I feel it is the easist and most convenient to work with. (as opposed to High Def-way too pricey, Mini-DV-can’t stand FF/REV tapes & Hard Drive- pricey and like Mini-DV or 8mm- time consuming to transfer the video to back to playable media like VHS or DVD). Does anyone agree with this?
I would like to purchase a simple Camcorder that gives me decent picture, batterly life, recording time, playable DVD format, image stabilization, nighttime shooting etc for a budget of $400. Does anyone have any recommendations. Anything else I should know or look for in a DVD camcorder. Any glaring drawbacks? (I.E. disk not playable on certain DVD players, limited recording times, I understand you can only record up to 30 minutes. 60 minute DVDs are available but they are “flipper” disks which is very inconvenient).
I would greaty appreciate suggestions, recommendations, tips, warnings etc.

Hey,
I’m looking for a new camcorder to shoot some short films. Obviously, I want good quality and HD, but for an affordable price. I came across the Panasonic H81 which seemed great until I saw it shoots in MPEG2. I’ve read that MPEG2 is a pain to edit. (at least I think it’s MPEG2)?

Can someone recommend me a camcorder which will easily work with editing programs. I’m thinking along the lines of iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to start off with. I will save up for Vegas or Final Cut when I get around to it. However, I do own a handycam which uses 8mm disks and i’ve got to the point of abandoning it because it’s useless. It doesn’t let me transfer to my pc let alone edit it on a program.

hello i have an HD camcorder. on my laptop..i can hook up the camcorder and watch the videos fine..but on my computer..it doesnt seem to open the file..(windows media player) and play it..i have to play it through nero..and the quality is verry bad too…i bought the pc a year ago too so it isnt all that old? what do i do? do i have todownload a new firmware for windows media player? its like MTS format or something

hi guys I’ve been trying to convert the camcorder’s movie into the vcd or dvd but the software I’ve got with the camcorder is useless.
