Why is my flip ultra HD camcorder not being recognized on computers?

When i plug it in, it says connected but on the computer screen it keeps going “usb device not recognized.” This is a brand new camcorder. It sometimes works for about 5 – 10 seconds and then disconnects i installed the driver and everything, i just want to see that DCIM folder and stuff.
Are flip video camcorders compatible with Mac desktop computers?
