I am transferring my videos from Canon Z60 mini DV camcorder using FIREWIRE 1394 port and Windows Movie Maker. When I watch the same video by connecting the camcorder directly to TV via AV port, the quality of videos is very good. But when I transfer the videos to my PC, using firewire port and windows movie maker, I just receive a resolution of 320×240 pixels. This is very poor resolution. Is their any other form of transferring the Videos from mini DV cassettes to PC, keeping the QUALITY of the videos? Will using any other professional Video software while transferring will help? Do somebody know which FORMAT windows movie maker save the video in? Is is MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 for anyother format?

I just bought a MacBook Pro and and would like to transfer all my Hi8 movies from an old Sony Handycam. I am partially aware of two devices which may be available (Pinnacle and Elgato). I do have an old Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80 but no software and cannot find support on it probably because it is so old. I would guess it is not compatible with a Mac anyway. Any ideas on the best device to use to transfer these movies so I can import them into iMovie? Anything that will give the best picture quality since these are beloved home moves.

“The Missing Manual—IMovie 6 and IDVD” states that they are incompatable. I am wondering if since this book was published they have created the necessary connection (something similar to Firewire) to now make it possible to load movies from this camera to my Mac.
We would really like to get our daughter’s movies on our computer and be able to edit them in IMovie……Thank You

I recently through a birthday party for my baby who turned one and while she was eating the cake i was so preoccupied with recording her with my camcorder that i totally forgot to take any pictures of it. I have had this problem with a few cameras. I use Windows Movie Maker and a lot of cameras don’t import directly into it. Can this camera import directly into wmm without using a converter. I’ve tried using converters before but I have never been happy with the resulting video quality. If it doesn’t work with wmm, what editing software does it work with?
