I have been trying unsuccessfully to create video files which can be viewed in Win Media Player. I plugged in a Firewire and was able to capture the video from my camcorder in Movie Maker but then the wmv files looked wonky when I opened them in Media Player. The only thing that worked was to save it as an avi file but the quality wasn’t good enough despite the big file size. Is there a way to save it as an mpeg direct from Movie Maker? I can’t figure out how.

Trying to buy video camcorder. What is the best format, 1) mini dv 2) dvd 3) flash memory?
The major thing is ease of use, not having to go crazy trying to burn dvd. Actually I don’t know what is the best way of sharing videos either, just seems like dvd would be the easiest for technologically unadvanced.

I am trying to decided on a good HD DVD Camcorder any thoughts!?
I was looking at some prices and was thinking about getting the Sony HDR-UX20 but came upon the Hitachi DZ-BD70A Blu-ray camcorder.
The weird thing is the Blu-ray camcorder is sold for 515 dollars while the Sony DVD camcorder is sold for 600 dollars. Can this be right. I would love to get the blu-ray camcorder but am worried if it doesn’t function properly and thats why it is so cheap!

Horizontal band on bottom of screen when trying to output DV video from Sony DCR-TRV120 camcorder?
I have my Sony DCR-TRV120 Digital 8 camcorder hooked up to my mac using a firewire connection. If I try to capture video with imovie, there is a horizontal band of black and white pixels at the bottom of the video (this does not show up on the screen of the camcorder, only in the capture window of imovie and ends up showing up on my finished quicktime movies too). I burned a DVD of the movie, watched it on a regular TV, and it shows up as a green line on the bottom of the screen. I have tested this on another computer, so it seems like it is the “DV out” of the camcorder. Anyone have any ideas? I really don’t want to go out and buy another Digital 8 camcorder – they are so outdated. Thanks.
P.S. It’s not the tape either — I was also using the camcorder as a “passthrough” to digitize analog video from a VHS deck and it was happening with that too, further confirming that it’s the “DV out” function.
