My student film group has a just bought a few Sony DSR-PD 170’s to film with. We know it’s not best for the camera to spool tapes to our computer with it, but Mini DV VCRs are upwards of $2,000. If we bought a $300 Mini DV camcorder to spool tapes instead, would that work out, or would the quality diminish? Thanks!

Would you recommend the Flip camcorder?

So I’m looking for a small camcorder that is really easy to use. I was looking at the Flip camera, because I have heard from a few of my friends that they take good quality videos, is very simple to use, and I like how they have the USB thing on the side that I can just stick right into my laptop.
I have Windows xp, and I really want to make sure that with whatever kind of camera I get, I can insert my videos into Windows Movie Maker. I found the Flip website a little confusing 
and I couldn’t figure out where I would find that info.
If you’ve had experience with a Flip camera, how do you like it? And will it allow me to put the videos into Movie Maker (after I download the software or whatever)? And if you don’t like the Flip camera, what would you recommend?

I’m starting to look for a new camcorder. I don’t want anything too expensive, but also don’t want to waste money on something that is obsolete. I’d like to stay below $300, but would be willing to go slightly higher if that what it takes. Any thoughts?

I am getting a new memory card off Ebay. Should I go with a 16 GB Sandisk Ultra II for $35 or a Sandisk 8GB Extreme III for about $31? I am not sure if my camcorder is even good enough to benefit from a good card. I know for sure that a Walgreen Photo card doesn’t work well. Thanks in advance,
