What To Buy, A Jvc Everio Gz-hd40 Or Canon Minidv Hd Camcorder Hv30?

They’re both almost the same price.
I’m trying to shoot some high quality video. (semi-pro)
My sister tells me that the MiniDV will yield better image quality, but I’m not sure.
The Canon’s got an optical image stabilizer.
The JVC Everio’s 120 GB 5 hour full HD recording power is tempting.
Which one should I pick?

I would recommend the Canon. You can get it for a good price at Abt.com.http://www.abt.com/product/33275.html

HV30. It continues the HV20’s full feature set and then some. Why is that hard drive space so tempting? So when the HDD crashes you can lose all the video you have not transferred? So when you delete the video it is gone forever (if you have not created archive discs) rather than the miniDV tape not being re-used IS the archive? Or is it that when you want to actually watch the video you edit on a HDTV, there is no method to get that final video project onto the HDD – but with miniDV tape, just export the project back to the camcorder and use the camcorder as a playback deck connected to the HDTV with a
    HDMI cable?
Your sister is correct, by the way… and the HV30’s 24p setting can also provide a more “filmlike” image that the JVC cannot do… Not to mention the JVC’s use of anemic AVCHD which can be a challenge on all but the fastest, most current computers with lots of RAM (4 gig +) a large (500 gig +) hard drive separate from the start up drive and lots of available start up drive space…
